Trojans, Jaguars shine at Rim Rock

LAWRENCE, Kan. Andover's Alex Moen has ran at Rim Rock before and come away in the middle of the pack.

In his senior season, however, the Trojan runner made it his most memorable visit.

Moen won the Crimson varsity race at the KU Rim Rock Classic, making a big final kick in the closing 800 meters.

"I wanted to go slow in the first mile and I fell behind the leaders," Moen said. "Second mile, I kicked it up a notch and passed people gradually. In the third mile, I felt I was slowing down and walking almost, but I just kept plugging."

The Andover Central girls' cross country team is no stranger to top finishes.

Almost always grouped individually in the top 10-15 spots, Lauren Nutting and Devin Gerber kept the Jaguars' momentum going in Lawrence.

Nutting finished fourth (20:13.6) and Gerber (20:15.6) took home sixth place as the Andover Central girls' continue to build for a postseason run.
